This year’s Standard Bank biomass fair aims to bring stakeholders together to explore new opportunities and strengthen the growing sector.

The three-day fair will be held at Otjiwarongo under the theme ‘Innovating for a Greener Future’ from 8 to 10 August.

According to a joint statement from sponsors Standard Bank and its partners, the Namibia Biomass Industry Group (N-BiG) and the Charcoal Association of Namibia, the fair further aims to promote Namibia’s blossoming bush biomass sector.

“The biomass industry is crucial for fostering sustainable energy practices and addressing climate change.

By supporting the biomass fair, we are not only investing in the future of renewable energy, but also contributing to the socio-economic development of our nation,” said Standard Bank chief executive Erwin Tjipuka.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of this transformative industry, supporting initiatives that not only benefit the environment, but also enhance the livelihoods of Namibians,” he said.

Together, Namibians can ignite the growth of the biomass sector and pave the way for a sustainable and prosperous future, he added.

N-BiG chief executive Progress Kashandula said this year’s fair is aimed at updating biomass stakeholders and the public at large on sector developments.

“The bush biomass sector already contributes extensively to socio-economic development in Namibia and has the potential to shape an inclusive bio-economy,” Kashandula said.

He added that the fair is the most important knowledge exchange platform for the sector and provides an excellent opportunity for networking.

It comprises an industry conference, a networking event and an expo. Each specific event has a specific purpose, with the overall aim of formalising and promoting the budding biomass industry in Namibia, he said.

The first day of the conference will explore vital aspects such as governance frameworks, environmental best practices, access to local and international markets, harvesting and processing technologies, bush-biomass products and technical services, noted the statement.

The conference will also combine research papers delivered by experts emphasising innovative practices to promote a greener future.

The organisers noted that on 9 and 10 August, the expo, with an estimated 120 exhibitors, will demonstrate an extensive range of biomass products and cutting-edge technology.

“Patrons will have an opportunity to gain valuable insights into emerging trends and also seize opportunities in the industry.”
