FNB Namibia has come on board as an associate partner of the national cricket team, the Richelieu Eagles.

At a press conference at FNB’s head office in Windhoek on Tuesday, Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller announced the news, saying that it was quite a rare occurrence.

“It’s an exceptional day in which we announce an associate partnership in sport, which is very rare, because it’s not common for corporates to buy into associate partnerships,” he said.

In terms of the partnership, FNB Namibia will get naming rights with their logo appearing on the back of the national shirt, while they will support the national team financially for an undisclosed amount.

“The national team will still be called the Richelieu Eagles until March next year when that contract comes to an end, but FNB is an associate partner and that’s why their logo appears at the back, because it’s in a supporting role to the Eagles team in the naming designation,” Muller said.

“We are not going to disclose amounts, that’s private information, but it’s part of quite a number of designations that we will be announcing over the next six months or so,” he added.

The partnership follows on another recent collaboration between the two entities, after FNB Namibia was announced as the naming sponsor of Cricket Namibia’s new stadium in July.

Muller said that it was a three-year partnership.

“The stadium is the FNB Namibia NCG (Namibia Cricket Ground),  and that is a three-year partnership until the 1st of September 2027 just before the Cricket World Cup starts,” he said.

The stadium is still being developed, but the cricket field and pitch have already been prepared and were recently used for the UAE Falcons v Namibia A series.

Namibia will co-host the 2027 Cricket World Cup with South Africa and Zimbabwe.
