Six die in weekend stabbings

SIX people died after being stabbed in violent confrontations across the country over the weekend.

This is according to the weekend crime report released on Sunday by police national spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi.

In one of the incidents on Friday at around 02h00 at Ehafo village in the Oshana region, it is alleged that Elia Shitongeni Hamukwaya (38) murdered his girlfriend, Emilia Nangombe (34), then took his own life.

Shikwambi said the kitchen knife suspected to have been used to stab Nangombe was found next to Hamukwaya’s right hand with blood stains on the blade.

The two were allegedly seen together at a cuca shop the previous night, Shikwambi said.

“Both families were informed and the bodies were transported to Oshakati police mortuary,” Shikwambi added.

In a separate incident on Friday between 22h00 and 23h00 at Goreangab in Windhoek, Bigshow Gawaseb died after he was stabbed in the neck and chest with a bottle by a male suspect (24).

Shikwambi said Gaweseb was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

The suspect was arrested and is currently being treated at the hospital under police guard after he was also stabbed in the back with a knife by Gaweseb.

Gaweseb’s next of kin have been informed.

In another incident on Friday at about 07h30, it is alleged that a suspect stabbed Grand Beukes (32) with a kitchen knife. He was declared dead at Central State Hospital on Saturday.

The suspect has not yet been arrested.

Beukes’ next of kin have been informed.

Also on Friday, a suspect (18) stabbed Robert Seun Bam (36) with a kitchen knife in the chest at Khorixas at around 23h00.

According to Shikwambi, Bam was taken to the Khorixas State Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

The suspect has been arrested and the murder weapon recovered, said Shikwambi.

Bam’s next of kin have been informed.

In another incident on Sunday at around 01h45 at a bar at Groot-Aub, it is alleged that Mcancy Shivute (21) died after being stabbed with a knife by a male suspect (17) after a quarrel about money.

The suspect was arrested and Shivute’s next of kin have been informed.

On Sunday at around 03h30 at the intersection of Vrede Rede and Franziska van Neel streets at Swakopmund, three male suspects were arrested after Angolo John Matokolo (23) was stabbed and killed.

“It is alleged that the suspects, who were charging after him, stabbed Matokolo, inflicting a deep cut wound causing his death. Preliminary investigations revealed that Matokolo was stabbed in the middle of the chest with an unknown object.

“The next of kin were traced and informed. Police investigations continue,” Shikwambi said.
