TOP class entertainment will return to Omaruru this long-weekend when some of Namibia’s top Ma /Gaisa and Gospel artists grace the highly-popular//Goa !Haob Fun Day to put their unquestionable musical talent on display.
Famed singers, including Phura (Ma /Gaisa King), Ou Stakes (Ma /Gaisa Prince), Pule and Slow will headline the male artists while Brumelda, Imelda, Jaliza and Kalina will be doing it for the ladies.
Some of the female artists provided a taste of what fans can expect with top class performances during a fundraising gala dinner, which was broadcast live on the Damara-Nama radio service, at the Parliament Restaurant on Saturday night.
//Goa !Haob, which is hosted by the NBC Damara-Nama radio service, is an annual entertainment event and includes sports events like soccer, netball, tug-of-war and volleyball games.
It was created in 2009 by a group of listeners over 40 years of age, as well as presenters of the //Goa !Haob call-in morning programme on the Damara-Nama radio. “We decided that we could not only hear each other’s voices during the call-in and as a result, the //Goa !Haob Fun Day was created. We spiced up the gatherings with a lot of entertainment like music shows, sports and a beauty pageant,” said Ignatius !Gobs, out-going president of the organising committee.
“As you can see these are events that are very popular in townships and because the aim is to attract people from the townships, the fun day is modelled in its current format. The event has become a key part of Namibia’s entertainment calendar,” !Gobs added.
This year’s event will be staged at the Maboke Stadium and the Prison Sports Field at Omaruru after it was successfully staged at Khorixas last year.
A beauty pageant will precede the long weekend’s entertainment at the Ozondje Community Hall tomorrow night to find a replacement for the incumbent Miss //Goa !Haob, Nampara Amgabes.
The soccer event will see 20 teams battling it out this year while 14 teams will be contesting the netball event at the Makobe Stadium and Ubasen Primary School Stadium courts respectively.
Entrance for the main event is N$50 while admission for the sports is N$20 for adults and N$10 for children under 16.
