16 new schools, 723 teaching positions for 2024

To address the lack of space during the academic year, the Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture opened 16 new schools.

Speaking to The Namibian, executive director of the education ministry Sanet Steenkamp said: “We wish to announced that 16 schools, although on a smaller scale, have been established.”

She added that 723 teaching positions have been made available to all regional directors.

“Most teachers have been appointed, we (education ministry) are mindful that teachers usually apply for more than one position in different regions and have a choice to take up space were they want.”

However, Steenkamp said positions have to be reapplied for and regional directors are ready to fill these spaces.

She said the ministry is delighted to announced that all 14 regional directors have the admission lists for Grade 1, 8 and National Senior Secondary Curriculum (NSSC).

“They have a list of learners who are not admitted yet and hopefully with commencement of the schools on 15 January, we will have answers to most of the problems we experience.”
