Ministry of Health and Social Services executive director Ben Nangombe says approximately 180 000 healthcare workers have died globally during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He said this during the Africa Health Workforce Investment Forum at the Safari Hotel.
“In October 2021, globally up to 180 000 healthcare workers died due to the pandemic,” Nangombe said.
He said the question that needs to be asked is how healthcare workers can be better protected, as the protection of these workers is pivotal in the development of healthcare in Namibia.
“We believe that investing in, shielding and protecting the workforce is vital,” Nangombe said.
The objective of the Africa Health Workforce Investment Forum is to formally launch the African Health Workforce Investment Charter and secure commitments for leveraging health workforce investments.
