2019 ‘Clash of Accountants’ Winners Announced

The annual university ‘Clash of Accountants’ was concluded for the year, with a team from the Namibia University of Science and Technology’s accounting society taking the honours.

The prizes for the top three spots were all cash rewards, with N$10 000 for first place, N$5 000 for second and N$2 500 for the third spot.

Winning team Rick Flair (NUST) walked away with the main prize, with another NUST team, The Fab 4, in second place, while Unam’s The Fantastic Four came in third.

Johanna Shipo, president of the Unam accounting society, said that the annual contest does its best to promote the profession of accounting.

“This year’s event was one of the most competitive in a long time, and the contestants really displayed their abilities,” she commented. “We really commend the teams for their knowledge and competitiveness.”

Unam and NUST are the only institutions that compete in this contest, which is the brainchild of the accounting firm CRVW. The firm had two representatives on the panel of judges, Adelle Pienaar and McDonald Gamseb.

Casius Geiseb, the secretary general of the Unam accounting society, noted how well the teams competed in terms of their knowledge and skills. “We had a good one this year, and we plan to improve the event for next year, which is to make it the pinnacle for accounting students across Namibia.”
