Ballot counting slowly under way in Namibia after long delays
Namibia tallied votes Thursday after technical problems led to long delays on election day, forcing authorities to extend voting in a pivotal poll set to test the ruling party’s 34-year grip on power.
Logistical issues on Wednesday, including problems with electronic tablets used to check voters’ identities and insufficient ballot papers, left crowds still queueing until the early hours of Thursday in the southern African nation.

Opposition parties threaten to take action against ECN
Opposition parties have given the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) until Thursday afternoon to address their concerns on the voting process, or they will take action.
The opposition parties want an explanation for why the presidential and National Assembly elections on Wednesday were marred by ballot shortages and glitches with the verification machines.
Ballot papers were sufficient – ECN
Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) chief electoral and referenda officer Peter Shaama says ballot papers were sufficient.
He says this despite reports from some polling stations in the Kavango East, Omusati, Oshana, Khomas, //Kharas and Omaheke regions that ran out of ballot papers on Wednesday.
Mudge wants elections declared invalid
Republican Party (RP) president Henk Mudge said the RP will work with other political parties to declare the presidential and National Assembly elections invalid.
While many Namibians participated in the elections on 27 November, others were unable to due to insufficient ballot papers at various polling stations.
