Erongo Police Chief Commissioner Festus Shilongo told The Namibian that the suspects confessed their involvement in the crime before an Omaruru Magistrate on Saturday. They will appear in the Omaruru Magistrate’s Court today on charges of murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, theft and possession of stolen property. Their names cannot be revealed until they have made their first appearance in court.Shilongo said one of the suspects was already in the custody of the Omaruru Police on a charge of stock theft.A second suspect was arrested in the Omatjete area on Saturday. The rifle stolen from the Krugers was allegedly found in his car.The main suspect was arrested at a house in Omaruru’s Ozondje location on Friday and was allegedly in possession of the revolver used to murder the Kruger couple.Mrs Kruger was shot once in the chest while trying to fight off her killer in her home, while her husband was shot in the face while lying in bed.’The main suspect was always on the move, trying to dodge us. He was also in Windhoek and Okahandja, but when he came back to Omaruru we immediately sent a squad there to arrest him,’ Shilongo said.’I told the people of Erongo that it’s just a matter of time before the suspects were brought to book. We just had to be patient; and now that patience and good co-operation between the community and the Police has paid off.’Shilongo, who was recently promoted to Commissioner, praised the public for helping the Police track down the suspects.’With this type of teamwork between the Police and the people, hardcore criminals have nowhere to hide,’ he said.
