The Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) has warned that 4 000 beneficiaries who have not completed their biometric verification risk losing their benefits.
General manager Edwin Tjiramba said in a statement that the aim of the biometric verification process is to ensure that all beneficiaries receive their monthly pension benefits on time.
“To date, close to 4 000 pension beneficiaries who last verified before June risk not receiving their monthly pension benefits on 28 November,” he said.
Tjiramba added the verification process requires all eligible pensioners, children and spouses to provide proof of life three times a year.
The fund has warned that beneficiaries who are not verified will not receive their November income.
“This also ensures that tax refunds promised to be paid earlier will also be honoured on 28 November for those who are verified,” the general manager said.
The proof of life can be provided remotely by using the newly introduced and launched mobile biometric verification application.
“This self-service tool is available to all GIPF pensioners, and child and spousal annuitants who have access to a smart mobile device and data.”
Tjiramba said that user-friendly tools have been created to help members save time and claim benefit payments.
“GIPF encourages all pensioners, and child and spousal beneficiaries to embrace these technologies as they are secure, safe and accessible.” Tjiramba said.
The current window for biometric verification is open until Wednesday, 20 November
