Djuulume was elected on Friday night at the church's elective assembly at Odibo in the Ohangwena region.The church has not had a bishop since the retirement of former bishop Luke Pato in December last year.Pato, who is a South African national, served as bishop from 2016 until last year. Other candidates who were in the running to be elected as bishop are reverends Nangula Kathindi, Linea Haufiku-Mukete and Taarah Shalyefu.Shalyefu is the current mayor of Ongwediva.A source within the church said Kathindi and Haufiku-Mukete got eliminated in earlier stages of the election on Friday, while Shalyefu withdrew in round eight of the election.
