Geingob wants 100% execution rate

President Hage Geingob wants his cabinet ministers to prioritise projects under Vision 2030 with a 100% execution rate.

Geingob was speaking at the opening of the annual cabinet retreat on Friday morning in Windhoek.

His statement come at a time where ministries over the last 5 years have put their capital projects on hold due to limited financial resources.

Namibia’s economy has been ailing over years as drought and the pandemic deeply affected the country.

Ministries are still trying to fill critical positions as some vacancies have been frozen.

“Therefore, I herewith charge all ministers to ensure that they implement to the letter, projects under their portfolios, which are contained in the NDP5 and HPPII without delay,” the president said.

Geingob said this year, they want an accelerated pace of implementation to change the narrative of lack of action by African governments.

“It has been said that in Africa, we are good at planning and developing impressive policy documents, but when it comes to implementation things just don’t get done,” he stated.

The president believes that there is promise for recovery in several sectors of the Namibian economy.

“Let us take advantage of these opportunities and come up with new ideas that will reinvigorate the economy, create new employment opportunities and open up new horizons for sustained growth and innovation,” he added.
