Classical music lovers can look forward to a weekend packed with excellent compositions at the National Theatre of Namibia, where the Namibian National Symphony Orchestra and Cantare Audire will stage a concert.
The music ensemble will kick off today until 27 November, and forms part of the global celebration of Ludwig van Beethovens 250th birthday.
Despite some planned celebrations having to be shelved due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this weekends offering will be a production with Beethovens Romance for Violin and Orchestra, along with Cantare Audire, a well-known choir founded and conducted by the late Ernst van Biljon, the Beethoven Mass in C Major.
As a commemoration of the lives lost and social disruptions in the last year, Cantare Audire will perform the mass in memory of all those who helped fight the crisis.
Bonn-based Christian Ludwig, the conductor and musical director of the Orchester der Landesregierung Düsseldorf will conduct the orchestra and choir, alongside soloists Emily Dangwa as soprano, Alida van der Walt as alto, Jacques du Preez as tenor and Bernaby Coetzee as bass.
Ludwig also conducted the Concerto Festival of the NNSO in September.
Beethovens Romance for Violin and Orchestra will also be performed with Jürgen Kriess as soloist, while two other pieces by the Namibians composer Eslon Hindundu will be performed as well.
The production was sponsored by the German embassy in Windhoek.
