THE Trade Union Congress of Namibia (Tucna) has condemned the behaviour of the Namibian Police, who it claims always abuse their powers and positions when workers are on a protected strike.
Tucna’s president Paulus Hango announced this at a press conference on Wednesday.
According to Hango, the Namibian Police is against the Shoprite striking employees, who are on a nationwide strike for better salaries and working conditions.
“We have noticed with great concern that the Namibian Police is being used by Shoprite management as a shield to protect them and encourage them to employ scab-labour to perform the work of the lawful striking workers,” said Hango.
He added that some groups and personalities have evidently jumped onto the Shoprite strike to serve their own interests.
“This detracts from ever reaching a lasting solution to this problem,” he said.
Tucna added that it has offered its relentless solidarity support to the Shoprite employees.
