THE Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) plans to establish a satellite campus at Eenhana in Ohangwena region, the institution has revealed.
In a press release, Nust revealed that the campus will offer an assortment of programmes, focussing on natural sciences, management sciences, and technical and vocational education and training.
Speaking at a meeting that was held to discuss the establishment of the new campus, Itah Kandjii-Murangi, the minister of higher education, technology and innovation, said the decentralisation of Nust’s services has become a priority.
“Education needs to be taken to the masses of the country. Windhoek no longer holds the masses,” she said.
Nust vice-chancellor Erold Naomab expressed confidence in the project’s success because of his experience in facilitating new establishments.
“I am 110% committed to ensuring that this project reaches fruition,” he said.
Nust will also embark on a vigorous stakeholder engagement process, locally and internationally, to solicit support and funds for the project.
The institution will roll out the project in two phases, focussing on programme offerings and infrastructure development, respectively.
Former president of Namibia Hifikepunye Pohamba has been selected as the patron of the campus.
Ohangwena is one of the most densely populated regions in Namibia, but there are no other institutions of higher learning in the region except for the Eenhana Vocational Training Centre.
