RESIDENTS of Twaloloka informal settlement, who lost national documents in the raging fire which swept through their homes on Sunday evening, will have them replaced free by the ministry of home affairs.
The ministry’s executive director Etienne Maritz said on Wednesday they have been in consultation with the Erongo governor Neville Andre to compile a list of residents who lost their documents.
“The ministry is prepared to have the affected communities assisted in a speedy and smooth manner. We will work with the local authorities to obtain a consolidated list of all affected individuals. We will do this as soon as we are able to, considering the Covid-19 restrictions,” he said.
Under normal circumstances, Maritz said duplicate national documents must be paid for, but the replacement will be done at no cost to the affected individuals.
“We are cognisant of the hardship already faced by the affected individuals. We have started working on the administrative processes to achieve this noble goal,” he said.
