Driver injures woman, baby

A WOMAN carrying her baby on her back sustained serious injuries after she was hit by a truck driver on Friday afternoon at Maputa village.

According to the police, the truck driver allegedly hit the woman and her baby while they were crossing the road on the Trans-Caprivi Highway and both sustained serious injuries.

They have been admitted to the Andara District Hospital.

Police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, Vejamuavi Kaambo (31) died after his shack at Otjomuise caught fire on Saturday morning.

Kaambo was allegedly sleeping when the neighbour saw the shack was on fire. The fire brigade was called, but could not save the deceased.

The cause of fire is unknown.

A worker (20) at Farm Witvlei at Ariamsvlei allegedly slipped from the trailer of a tractor on Friday and got caught under the trailer.

The police say the trailer’s wheels ran over the worker’s lower body and he sustained serious injuries.

He was transferred to Karasburg State Hospital. In a separate incident, Thomas Nangolo Wilipard (27) was reportedly fatally stabbed by his neighbour at Wanaheda on Friday evening and died on the spot.

The suspect (43) handed himself over to Wanaheda Police Station.

DRUGS

A 28-year-old Congolese male was arrested in Eros on Friday after he was found to be in possession of 4g of cocaine worth N$2 000.

He is expected to appear in court today.

Police investigations continue.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old Spanish male was arrested at Walvis Bay on Friday for dealing in 10 g of cocaine, eight blocks of crack cocaine and 1/4 moon of crack cocaine worth N$10 500.

He will appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court today.

At Noordoewer on Saturday, two males aged 23 and 27 were arrested after they were allegedly found in possession of cannabis, Mandrax tablets and 70 packs of Yes cigarettes worth N$41 140 during a police search.

The suspects will appear in court today.

A 22-year-old Namibian male was arrested at Naraville on Friday after he was purportedly found in possession of 20 g of cannabis and crushed Mandrax worth N$290 during a police search.

He will appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court today.

A 29-year-old male was arrested after he was said to be found in possession of 32 g of cannabis worth N$320 during a police search at Rupara village in the Kavango West region.

The suspect will appear in the Kahenge Periodical Court today.
