Nanso offers free transport to Unam for registering students

THE Namibia National Students Organisation will offer students registering at the University of Namibia in Windhoek free transport from Monday.

The organisation’s national secretary of education, Efraim Paulus, on Sunday said that as part of Nanso’s ‘Access to Education’ campaign, to assist students during the 2019 registration period, the organisation has partnered with Silas Ndapuka Transport to get students to Unam’s main campus.

“To gain access to the bus, students and prospective students will be required to show their student card or provisional acceptance letter from Unam. Students must remain alert and disciplined, as we are working around the clock to secure additional free transport for students to Nust, IUM and other equally important campuses and colleges,” he said.

Nanso further called on former members and leaders, business people, community councillors, influential figures in society and those with transport vehicles to take help students get to campuses to register.

“We call you all to come on board and support our campaign to ensure that we attain our goals and objectives of assisting students and prospective students to access higher education during this registration period,” Paulus added.

Pickups will start at 06h00 on Monday morning and students would be returned to the pickup points after registration at 17h00.

The pickup points are:

1. Havana four-way

2. Goreangab bus stop

3. Four-way on Otjomuise Street, between Wanaheda and Greenwell Matongo

4. Hakahana bus stop

5. Wanaheda bus stop

6. Okuryangava bus stop

The ‘Access to Education’ campaign also calls for the abolishing of registration and application fees, and ensuring that every eligible student has access to education and funding.

Nanso president Ester Simon last week said the organisation would engage with the student representative councils of all institutions to establish how the access campaign would work, and would release practical steps to be taken for each institution.
