A TWENTY-seven year-old man was arrested on Thursday on the Otjiwarongo-Outjo road in possession of 57 full tablets of Mandrax with a street value of N$6 800.
The Namibian Police’s spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa region, warrant officer Maureen Mbeha, on Friday informed Nampa that the man was travelling from Windhoek to Outjo at the time of his arrest.
She explained that the man was arrested at a roadblock which was set up along that road at about 21h50 by the police during its regular mobile patrols.
“When the vehicle with the suspect stopped at our roadblock, we searched it, and 57 full tablets of Mandrax were found stashed in his bag,” said Mbeha. The suspect is expected to appear in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of possession and dealing in drugs.
This is the second time in the past week that the police in the Otjozondjupa region have seized Mandrax tablets after 26-year-old Elsie Goagoses and 30-year-old Sebastian Claasen appeared in court at Outjo on Thursday as they were allegedly found in possession of 200 full tablets of Mandrax with a total value of N$30 300 last Tuesday.
The duo were on their way from Windhoek to Kamanjab at the time of their arrest on the same road.
