National pride workshop underway at Otjiwarongo

A THREE-DAY consultative workshop to formulate a five-year strategic plan which will guide stakeholders in conducting campaigns on nationhood and national pride, kicked off at Otjiwarongo yesterday.

The workshop, organised by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, is tasked with formulating campaigns with a plan to instil patriotism and pride among Namibians.

The deputy minister of information and communication technology, Engel Nawatiseb, yesterday officially opened the workshop, accompanied by the ministry’s executive director, Mbeuta Ua-Ndjarakana.

Nawatiseb strongly urged participants to establish and produce a communicative strategic plan document that will convince the nation that Namibia is the best place to live in, and that it is a competitive country.

“This nationhood and national pride campaign is also about building a common identity of the country that makes it sound more competitive in the world, and we want to see that coming from this workshop into the document,” he said.

He furthermore called on the close to 70 government and government agencies’ officials participating in the workshop to give their divergent views on how to instil patriotism into the Namibian people, and how to foster an understanding that locally-manufactured goods and services are the best, as well as for the consumption thereof to be reflective of this understanding.

The document should further detail the dangers of cherishing tribalism, regionalism and racism as these bad ideologies have the ability to destroy any nation, Nawatiseb added. – Nampa
