Two men questioned on Nimt murders

A FORMER senior lecturer at the Tsumeb campus of the Namibian Institute for Mining and Technology is being questioned at the Erongo police headquarters at Walvis Bay.

This was confirmed by police spokesperson Edwin Kanguatjivi.

“What the outcome of the questioning will be, I cannot say, but we are hoping for a breakthrough soon,” he told The Namibian. “But no one has been arrested yet.”

Another person, reportedly a prison officer at Tsumeb, was also questioned on Tuesday regarding a social media post he “designed”, and in which he tried to convey a fake prophecy, police sources said.

The post, dated “26 December 2017” under the name “Jerrusalem” read: “You guys, don’t forget to pray for our good NIMT officials, mostly just their souls. Something will happen to them but I can’t testify when exactly, all I know is in April 2019 blood is going to splash, and the whole country will lose couple of souls unexpectedly that specific cursed day” (sic).

Kanguatjivi said this person was released soon after questioning, as there was not enough evidence to link him to the crime.

He warned purveyors of ‘fake news’ on social media that they should cease spreading such false information as it hampers police investigations.

Nimt executive director Eckhart Mueller and his deputy Heimo Hellwig were gunned down in front of the institution’s head office at Arandis on Monday morning when they arrived for work.

The Namibian also learned that eight empty cartridges from 9mm pistol were found at the scene, although no firearm was found there.
