Bail refused in double murder case

A WINDHOEK resident who is due to stand trial over the killing of two women in January 2016 heard today that his bail application has been unsuccessful.

Acting judge Petrus Unengu refused a bail application by Lukas Nikodemus (48) after concluding that it would be in the public interest and the administration of justice for Nicodemus to remain in custody.

Nikodemus’; trial is scheduled to start in the Windhoek High Court next Monday.

Nikodemus is accused of murdering two women, Johanie Naruses (29) and Clementia de Wee (23), by shooting them after leaving a bar in Katutura, Windhoek, in their company on the evening of 6 January 2016.

The state also alleges that he dumped the bodies of Naruses and De Wee at a refuse site near Pionierspark, Windhoek, and set the bodies on fire in an attempt to destroy evidence of the shooting of the two women and to hinder the police’;s investigation into their deaths.

The bodies were found at the dumpsite on 7 January 2016.

Nikodemus told the judge during his bail hearing two weeks ago that he was not responsible for the deaths of Naruses and De Wee.

He was arrested on 7 January 2016, and has been in custody ever since.
