The Colour of Life

ONE thing is for sure, if we all were to be the same, life would be dead boring. Can you imagine a life where each and every human being is exactly the same in character and personality? Oh Lord no… I would die of boredom.

Having said that, I am truly mesmerised by the colourful life we live, especially the colourful human beings this world sees.

I am not talking about skin colour – yes, the different skin colours add such an awesome spark to this journey, a dimension in life I just love! I don’t see skin colour when I talk to the next person, but I have to give kudos to the big guy for his brilliant thinking when he decided to make us all different, also in colour. He is just awesome and so creative, fun and very far from boring!

Nevertheless, the colour I am referring to is that of personality and character. And if my eyes are not fooling me, life is becoming more and more colourful as time goes by. Life, or rather human beings, just seem to become more interesting.

Have you ever just made your way to the city centre or a popular hang-out spot, or just hung on the balcony at work, or sat in the office for a few minutes… and watched people? You should try it. You will have the time of your life, I am telling you!

Having a close look at human beings and their behaviour and the way they act and react is a show on its own. In fact, it is probably the best reality show you will watch in your life. Humans are interesting, fun and very entertaining in their most natural form. Humans are also very educating – the best teachers when they are real and true to their emotions and reactions to what life throws their way. I love mankind, and I appreciate the Almighty for bringing us to life.

Try it. Just go and sit or stand somewhere for an hour or so and watch human beings pass by and do their thing. Or go out one night and stand at the bar or somewhere you have a nice view over most of the crowd… and just watch. You will thank me later for the awesome experience and of course the enrichment this will add to your life. Just looking at the way people walk differently, talk differently, dress differently and use body language differently is pretty amazing to watch and observe. I just love it.

This brings me to the excitement about it all, which many of us unfortunately do not seem to realise is what it is – excitement, a blessing and a privilege to be alive at a time in which we experience such a beautiful and colourful season of life.

I am not saying get along with everyone or like everyone, or be friends with everyone. Of course we should always try to be the best we can to the next person, which is no guarantee that you will be the best of friends after that. Expecting to get along with everyone and be friends with everyone would be a stupid and ignorant recommendation to make. Because the fact is, we are all so different in so many ways, it is highly unlikely to be close to everyone. Personalities clash and different characters don’t always sit around one fire. But I am hoping to inspire you to appreciate our differences and to not judge people on who they naturally are.

These things are not easy. It is a challenge for me as well, daily, to come to terms with the fact that we are all different, do things in different ways and will never be the same. But I do believe that life would be so much more joyful and pleasant to be a part of if we came to terms with the fact that it is a colourful life, filled with different personalities and characters. And that we need to embrace that reality in order to be more successful in the journey of life.

We need to accommodate each other and respect each other for our differences. And we most certainly are missing out on really enjoying each other as a colourful contribution to life if we continue to despise and run down people because they are different. Who knows, maybe accepting someone’s differences and accepting who they are is the answer to getting along with that one person who is part of your life whether you like it or not.

Life can be awesome. People can be bliss. It is how we look at it and them that makes the difference!

Till next time gents, cheers!
