Computer Literacy for Community Members

One of the functions of the Hardap libraries is to train community members on basic computer skills and knowledge which is important for various reasons

This specific training includes Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and using the internet, to mention a few. The trainees are also shown different ways to search for information and the purpose of the training is to help community members to become computer literate.

After the training, they will have other skills such as typing letters for employment, typing up a curriculum vitae and using the internet correctly and effectively.

Last year the Mariental library focused on training mainly community members and conduct workplace computer literacy. The library also trained almost 200 community members on basic computer literacy while amongst the 200 members who were trained last year, five were prison wardens. As the training was very successful, the correctional officials requested for training of their inmates and wardens.

Therefore, at this stage, the library trained 16 prison wardens and 16 inmates. The number of the requested staff and inmates to be trained is high and the library does not have the capacity to train all of them as they do not have enough computers and staff members to answer in the demand from the offices and community members.
