Zimbabwe dominate against Lesotho

SOUTH Africa’s clash with Eswatini in the Women’s under-20 competition at the AUSC Region 5 Games in Gaborone was washed out on Saturday after torrential rain made the pitch unplayable.

The score was at 0-0 when the heavens opened and the players were forced from the field after 28 minutes, bringing a premature end to the third day of football action at the Games.

The match will resume on Sunday morning at 09h00, making it an early start for players and officials alike.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe gained a well-deserved three points with a 3-0 victory after dominating their game against Lesotho.

Praynance Zvawanda was the key player for her team as she netted a brace, which also earned her the Player of the Match award.

Zimbabwe will, however, be worried that their captain was substituted with an ankle injury which could rule her out from the next game subject to a medical assessment.

Lesotho on the other hand will want to quickly forget this game as they had very few chances and were in the end outclassed.

Zimbabwe head their Group A with the victory after the other two teams in the pool, Botswana and Angola, played to a draw on Friday.

Zimbabwe will be back in action on Sunday when they take on hosts Botswana (KO 14h30) at the Jamal Stadium with a real chance to take a grip on the pool.

There will also be three matches played in the Boys under-17 competition as Zambia tackle Eswatini (14h00) at the National Stadium in a Group A game.

Zambia drew their opener with Botswana, while Eswatini were handsome winners over Namibia, which makes this a crucial tie in the pool.

All four teams in Group B will be in action as well, as South Africa look to get their first points when they take on Angola at the UB Stadium (17h00).And before that Tanzania will tackle Malawi (14h00) at the same venue in what will be another intriguing tie.
