All Roads Lead To… Am Weinberg Sky Lounge

If you like your perfectly balanced cocktails sipped on a rooftop boasting panoramic views of the valley, give a warm applause of welcome to Am Weinberg Sky Lounge. Situated at the upscale Am Weinberg Boutique Hotel, the sky lounge dazzles in its plush, luxuriously appointed nooks, sophisticated solo bar and spacious deck.

At 16h00 on a Wednesday afternoon, I’m the lounge’s sole patron but I’ve been warned. It gets seriously hot up there before sunset so guests arriving early generally prefer to beat the heat in the wine lounge before venturing upstairs to catch the magic hour.

The problem is, every hour at the Sky Lounge is magic. From the attentive staff – including the swift and smiling Susanna – to the details of its décor, an aesthetic of elegantly etched low copper tables contrasted with soothing blues, whites and a pop of yellow mimicking the colours of the sky, the lounge is the perfect blend of understated luxury and comfort.

To eat, the menu teases tapas and my order is succulent grilled beef sliders with cayenne dip; crispy braised pork belly elevated by a chilli and ginger caramel with pickled beetroot, flame charred onions and potato puree; rustic fries with smoked paprika and mature cheese and tempura onion rings.

All gorgeously plated, delicious and served with a smile, the tapas are small savoury dishes ideally complemented with something from the bar.

My drink of choice? A Cosmopolitan from a cocktail menu that isn’t as exciting as the food but is solid concerning the classics. Dive into the gin, wines and other drinks on offer if cocktails aren’t your thing and get comfortable because you’re never going to want to leave.

Not the decadent white chocolate mousse, the cheesecake bites or the views interrupted each hour with a chime from the bell in the clocktower that seems to celebrate this perfect spot for sexy date nights, swish birthday parties, swank catch-ups and some solo staring into the distance with these famous last words:

“It’s five o’clock somewhere.”
