Kavango East beat Oshikoto

Kavango East beat Oshikoto 1-0 to book their place in the final of The Namibian Newspaper Cup.

Reinhard Shamwaka scored the winner early on, while they spurned several more chances in a match that Kavango East dominated from the start.

The pacey Shamwaka gave problems to Oshikoto’s defence from the start, and gave Kavango East the lead with a great strike on 6 minutes when he outpaced the defence to run onto a cross and score from close range.

Kavango East continued to do the early attacking, with Maximilian Napenda a constant thorn in Oshikoto’s defence.

In the 13th minute, he ran clear of the defence, but his shot was well-saved. A minute later, there was drama in the box when he sent in a teasing cross, which was eventually cleared.

Oshikoto hardly had any chances, with Dantago Augumeb sending a long- range effort wide, but Kavango East finished the half stronger as Stephanus Makayii hit the post from close range.

Makayii once again came close in the second half when he broke through the defence but shot wide, while Oshikoto’s chances were snuffed out by Abraham Nginga and Athanasius Kudumo in Kavango’s defence.

In the final stages, Freddy Gavakwe and Romeo Hausiku both came close as Kavango East completed a dominant display to book their place in the final.

Kavango East midfielder Romeo Hausiku won the man of the match award.
