BLACK Africa hope Thursday’s appointment of club legend Lucky Richter as interim head coach will yield the desired results for the season and beyond.
Without a substantive head coach since Otto Landsberg quit at the start of the season, the club turned to Richter, who starred for the Lively Lions for nearly two decades in the 90s, to take them through the current campaign in which they intend to reclaim the Namibia Premier League title.
This means caretaker coach Arnold Subeb returns to his regular assistant role.
“We, as the management team of Black Africa, are delighted to have coach Lucky Richter back in the structures of BA, and that the coach has accepted to render his experience and passion to the football team he played in for 17 uninterrupted years,” said newly-installed Black Africa chairman Cassius Moetie.
Richter, who returns for a second coaching stint at the club, will have full control of the coaching and technical programme of the team, Moetie added.
“Coach Richter will also mentor his assistant coaches Arnold Subeb and Moses Katjiteo to build them up to a level where they are fully-fledged coaches to assume full responsibility of BA’s technical department, going forward,”
A stalwart of the club, Richter has always been close to intimate proceedings at the club since hanging up his boots, and is a regular attendee of matches and training sessions.
He was unveiled as new interim head coach during Thursday’s training session at the Dawid Bezuidenhoudt High School.
“BA appointed one of the best coaches Namibia has ever produced, and the beauty of this appointment is that coach Richter is one of many former BA players, one of many former BA coaches, and one of many former Brave Warriors coaches Black Africa has proudly produced for Namibian football. It is, therefore, not by luck that BA is the most decorated, most professional and most adorable football brand in Namibia,” Moetie bragged.
His first task is to successfully navigate past Orlando Pirates in what is expected to be a fiery derby at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday night.
“Therefore, embrace the wealth of experience coach Richter brings to you as players; listen to his technical, psychological and mental advice he gives you; and if you internalise those instructions, nothing can stand in our way to reclaim our NPL championship, come May 2018,” said Moetie, who is confident Richter’s reign will kick off on a positive note.
Victory for BA on Friday night will leave them two points behind second-placed Tura Magic, and just five off log leaders African Stars, who are not in action until tomorrow afternoon when they respectively host Young Chiefs and Rundu Chiefs at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.
Magic and Stars then face struggling Chief Santos and Mighty Gunners on Sunday.
BA also face fourth-placed Life Fighters at Otjiwarongo on Sunday, with Pirates in ninth at home to sixth-placed Young African.
In Saturday’s other matches, title holders Tigers are at home to Gunners; Fighters welcome Young African; Eleven Arrows host Citizens; and Blue Waters entertain Unam.
Sunday’s line-up also includes Civics versus Young Chiefs; Tigers against Rundu Chiefs; Blue Waters facing Citizens and Arrows tackling Unam.
