THE Oshikoto and Ohangwena regions will conclude their Debmarine Namibia Cup preliminary legs this week as the line-up for the second round takes shape.
There are only thirteen spots available for second division teams in the round of 32 stage where the Namibia Premier League teams enter the fray.
This weekend, regional winners King Fischer FC of Zambezi and Oshikoto regional winners, who will be determined on Wednesday, will battle for a spot in the next round at the Katima Mulilo Sports Complex.
On Saturday, Ogongo FC held their nerve to win the Omusati mini-tournament 4-3 on penalties in a pulsating final match against Future FC and reach the last 32 round of the competition.
Future FC beat Blue Birds 3-1 to get to the final against Ogongo FC, who trounced Young Braves 2-1 in the semi-finals.
King Fisher FC beat Namib Chiefs 2-1 to be crowned Zambezi region’s finest. Fisher defeated Buck Bucks 5-3 on penalties after a goalless draw in their penultimate game, while Chiefs also won 5-4 on penalties after a one-all draw against Katima Wanderers.
Omaheke region will be represented by Eastern Chiefs in the last 32. Chiefs defeated Kom Haal Hulle 5-4 in the final match at the Legare Stadium on Sunday. Kom Haal Hulle reached the final courtesy of a 4-3 penalty shootout victory over Kanaan United after they drew 1-1 in regulation time. Chiefs were narrow 1-0 winners against Omaheke Nampol FC.
Otjiwarongo FC (OFC) are the Otjozondjupa regional Debmarine Namibia Cup winners after they defeated Dynamos 3-1 in their final at the Mokati Stadium on Sunday at Otjiwarongo. OFC reached the final after they defeated a spirited Okakarara Warriors 2-1 and Dynamos reached the final with a 5-4 win over Sundowns on spot kicks.
At the Vineta Stadium in Swakopmund, Gendev FC beat Sorento Bucs to take the Erongo regional title.
Oshana region will have Khuse FC in the next round after they defeated Foxy Seniors 2-0 at the Independence Stadium in Oshakati on Sunday. Khuse were 4-2 penalty shootout winners over Brave Lions after a one-all draw and Seniors were 1-0 winners against Vietnam Rangers.
Bee Bob Brothers beat Reho Madrid 8-7 on penalties after a goalless draw to win the Hardap playoffs.
Young Beauties are the Karas champions.
The North-East First Division kick off their campaign this weekend together with the Southern Steam while North-West will conclude this weekend at Outjo.
