BANK Windhoek has recently appointed Jacqueline Pack (JP) as executive officer: marketing and corporate communication services (MCCS) from 1 September 2016. This outstanding marketing woman tells The Namibian’s Ndama Nakashole (NN) about her plan to create thought leaders within marketing to help shape the strategic direction of the bank, and being a farm girl at heart.
JP: My primary focus is to provide leadership for the integration and alignment of brand marketing, creative services, corporate communication and social investment and business intelligence in order to support the bank’s strategic plans and objectives.
JP: I completed my secondary education at Windhoek High School. I studied through distance and acquired my bachelor’s in commerce degree in marketing management through Unisa. I proceeded to a B.Comm honours degree at the same university. I have done various short courses, including Diageo’s way of brand building and breakthrough leadership, to mention a few. I am currently enrolled for an MBA at Edinburgh University, Herriot Watt, which I hope to complete latest in 2018 through distance education.
I have held various positions in the marketing field. I started off as a marketing officer at the University of Namibia for five years. I then moved over to the fast-moving consumer goods environment, where I worked as a market analyst at South African Breweries (SAB) and Namib Mills, respectively. This created the foundation which my marketing methodology is based on, and I was privileged to gain valuable research knowledge and insights. Within two years, I got an opportunity at Namibia Breweries (NBL) as brand manager. My time at NBL gave me exposure not only to the core concepts of marketing, but also the opportunity to work on global brands, and be trained in global marketing tools from one of the most successful consumer goods companies, Diageo, through its partnership with NBL. I was later promoted to senior brand manager and worked on the “Windhoek” (Windhoek Lager, Draught and Light) portfolio. During this time, we launched Windhoek’s global marketing campaign for Namibia and other African countries. After five years at the breweries, I moved to Standard Bank as head: marketing and corporate communications, a position I held till 31 August this year.
JP: With my experience, I would like to create thought leaders within marketing to help shape the strategic direction of Bank Windhoek through empowerment and growth. In addition, I would like to introduce a marketing planning cycle which encompasses a lot of levers that will ensure that we add value to business in an efficient manner.
JP: I can do all things through God, who strengthens me. My motivation comes from my husband and children as they mean the world to me, and support me always. Secondly, being a marketer, nothing gives me as great a pleasure as a successful marketing campaign which delivers value both to the customer and the organisation.
JP: I read the Bible every day, and have recently read “Healing begins with the sanctification of the heart” by Michelle Strydom. I also enjoy books by Joyce Meyer, Joel Osteen and Stormie Omartian, to mention but a few.
JP: Being a farm girl at heart, I love spending time with my family, reading and watching good movies. We also do part-time farming, and I love switching off and becoming one with nature.
