The Bitmoji Craze

Have you noticed that social media users are creating their own avatars and using them as memes and emojis these days? Introducing Bitmoji, the new (and free) app which has everyone going crazy. It’s all about personalising your character so that it looks more like you and clothing him/her to match your style.

Because it was so interesting to use, popular app Snapchat decided to collaborate with the Bitmoji team, allowing users to add it to their sticker collections, as long as the latest version is installed.

But here’s what interesting about the app – you don’t only have to use it in Snapchat, but it’s added into your keyboard as a third party source, so you can use it in whatever app you like.

It may be a bit strange because you’re giving permission for the app to have full access to your phone, but the company has promised that they are not “reading, transmitting or storing anything you type”.

Other than the free emojis that are available to you, those who have a little more in their pockets can shop around at the Bitstore to find more interesting theme packs, such as all things Kim Kardashian or famous movie scenes.

Its popularity has risen in the past month, although makers are really tight-lipped about how many downloads there have been, but we’re pretty sure there have been quite a lot.

Because they are seen everywhere, some people have already starting finding the trend annoying.

Remember the ‘Powerpuff Girl’ phase where everyone could create their own Powerpuff Girl avatar? It was short-lived, but hopefully the Bitmojis will last longer.

Luckily, the app is not only restricted to iPhone users. Bitmoji is also available for Androids on Google Play and on Google Chrome users for PCs who want to add some colour to their Gmail.
