‘Central Intelligence’

HIGH school can be an excessive place. You either rule the school or have everyone see your dangly bit at the year-end pep rally. At least according to ‘Central Intelligence’ (2016).

A rowdy new action comedy starring Kevin Hart and Dwayne Johnson as two unlikely heroes in a spy plot that involves exploding elevators, 20-storey falls and escapes by mail cart.

Juxtaposing Hart’s once upon a high school superstar turned accountant with Johnson’s unicorn-loving CIA agent beneath the fat kid, the film hurtles along towards Hart’s dreaded 20-year reunion where his teen nickname ‘The Golden Jet’ will likely loom large over his resultant mediocrity.

Insecure, unfulfilled and facing couple’s therapy about the fact, Hart accepts a friend request from Johnson on the eve of the reunion and inadvertently stumbles into much more than his ranting, protesting, double-crossing self can handle.

A story about friendship, oddball heroes and the lasting effects of high school ridicule, the film makes up for what it lacks in coherent plot with the highly watchable chemistry between Hart and Johnson.

Cliché, intermittently amusing but with a whole lot of heart, most notably from Johnson’s turn as an over-friendly giant, ‘Central Intelligence’ is a butt-kicking, leave your brain at home type boys’ night out for fans of the leads.

Look out for some cool cameos from Hollywood’s comedy royalty and mind the slapstick on your way out.

WIN, WIN, WIN!
