Inauguration of Sacu offices on Thursday

THE Southern African Customs Union (Sacu) will inaugurate its new headquarters in Windhoek on Thursday this week.

This was announced by Sacu’s executive secretary Paulina Elago during a media briefing yesterday.

The event will be attended by President Hage Geingob, presidents Jacob Zuma of South Africa and Seretse Ian Khama of Botswana, prime minister Barnabas Dlamini of Swaziland and deputy prime minister Mothetjoa Metsing of Lesotho.

The Namibian government donated the land for the new headquarters. According to Elago, the inauguration will be preceded by a meeting of the council of ministers tomorrow.

“The council of ministers consists of 10 ministers of finance and of trade and industry from the member states,” she said adding that after the inauguration on Thursday, the heads of state and government will convene an informal meeting at which they will consider issues related to the implementation of the Sacu work programme.
