For the second time since in 2012, the Oranjemund Town Council swore in the newest batch of Junior Town Council members for 2015, who will serve for a period of two years.
The event, held at Berronnies Restaurant in Oranjemund, hosted parents, pupils, teachers and other stakeholder as well as the outgoing junior councilors who received certificates of appreciation from the towns mayor, Henry Coetzee.
In her out-going speech, Nicole Klaaste thanked the Oranjemund Town Council for their support. “All our achievements would not have been possible,” she said.
Nicole also thanked her fellow Junior Town Council members for their hard work.
“It is not an easy task for youngsters to be community leaders. Therefore a special word of thanks goes to all the parents of the Junior Town Councillors for the support and time dedicated towards assisting us,” she said.
The newly-elected members are to face new duties such as the cancer project, elderly support project, HIV-AIDS project and taking charge in the commemoration of national days.
The newly-elected junior mayor of Oranjemund Ben Amadhila applauded the outgoing members, remarking that the task has been given to him to lead the council to even greater heights and improve youth development.
“Behind all the glory, there is hard work to be done. So this year my council will surely strive to improve youth development and implement fresh and new projects so we cannot only entertain the youth but also educate them on problems which pose a challenge to our youth today,” he said.
