Venaani accuses Geingob of being boastful

McHenry Venaani

DTA of Namibia president McHenry Venaani on Saturday hit back at President Hage Geingob, accusing him of boasting.

Venaani was speaking at his party’s last public rally ahead of the Otjiwarongo Constituency by-election set for Thursday.

The DTA leader said he was provoked by some remarks Geingob had allegedly made at a Swapo Party rally on 28 June 2015 in Otjiwarongo.

Geingob had apparently called Venaani boastful and said Swapo will make sure that the DTA is buried at the Otjiwarongo by-election.

“We all know Geingob is a political “chester” – a chester president who has so far appointed more permanent secretaries than ministers,” Venaani said. “Chester” is slang for boastful.

Venaani further said the DTA is a determined party and will take over government leadership in 2020.

“We are an elected opposition political party. It is our business to oppose government and guide it,” he stated.

He said the large number of government permanent secretaries appointed by Geingob will cost tax payers more than N$5 million per month, which according to him, is a waste of resources.

Venaani said Geingob must accept him as the second biggest politician in the country, and stop provoking him at Swapo rallies where only children fill up the venues.

He also accused the Swapo leadership in the Otjozondjupa Region and its candidate in the Otjiwarongo by-election, Julius Neumbo, of having failed the nation for the past 25 years.

Venaani urged the Otjiwarongo residents to go out in large numbers on Thursday and cast their votes for the DTA’s candidate, Emeralda Esme !Aebes.

He said voting !Aebes into power will be voting for absolute servicing of affordable town land, supply of electricity, sanitation and clean drinking water for all.

Swapo and the DTA are the only parties contesting the Otjiwarongo by-election, which was necessitated by the appointment of former Otjiwarongo Constituency regional councillor, Otto Ipinge as Otjozondjupa regional governor in April this year.

He replaced former Otjozondjupa regional governor Samuel Nuuyoma who retired.
