Nianell and Riana Nel to light up the NAMAs

AMIDST a stellar line-up of artists performing at the Nambian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) this year, two of Namibia’s finest musical exports, Nianell and Riana Nel, are gearing up to set the stage alight.

Following the astounding sets, world class production, explosive performances and all round amazing weekend in Swakopmund last year, NAMAs 2015 is gearing itself up yet again to give Namibians an event to remember. Taking place at the Swakopmund Indoor Sports Centre on 1 and 2 May, Nianell and Riana will form part of an exciting and diverse performance line-up which also marks the fifth anniversary of the NAMAs. The event will see Namibia’s biggest stars from across all major popular Namibian music genres come together for an unforgettable weekend of musical celebration.

“We are turning five this year and we (MTC and NBC) are proud of having built an exciting and recognisable brand called the NAMAs,” said Tim Ekandjo.

Nianell is a world-class platinum selling artist, author and motivational speaker, a proud Namibian and an honorary ambassador for Team Namibia, who is based in South Africa. She is an international success story with many of her songs playlisted on radio stations worldwide. She is a gifted singer, a talented musician and songwriter. Nianell has been a trailblazer for female singer-songwriters in South Africa and she has achieved international success with her first album selling over two million copies worldwide. Having consistently delivered beautiful, inspirational and successful albums. Nianell has shared the stage with world acclaimed artists like Christina Aguilera, Westlife, Diana Ross and Andre Bocelli and has won many international awards including Best Female Vocalist at ‘Vonk Awards’ and Best Gospel/Inspirational category at the ‘16th Annual USA Song Writing Competition’. Her debut book ‘Knowing Who I Am’ has been released in Afrikaans (‘Om te weet wie ek is’) and in English and is already a best seller in the Afrikaans market.

Riana Nel (who just so happens to be the also very famous sister of Nianell) is also a double platinum selling artist with her album ‘Die Moeite Werd’ (‘Worthwhile’) breaking sales records, in addition to another six number one radio hits. Riana is regarded as one of the biggest female artists in South Africa today. In 2013 she was awarded the ‘Tempo Award’ for Best Pop Album at the ‘Ghoema Awards’ and shared Songwriter of the Year award with Johan Vorster. Riana is also a very respected singer-songwriter and writes songs for many South African artists including Juanita du Plessis, Jay, Lianie May, Bobby van Jaarsveld and many more.

Tickets for the NAMAs 2015 will be available as from 23 February. VIP tickets will sell for N$500 while standard tickets cost N$250, available nationwide from Computicket, or online from the www.computicket.com.

The event will be broadcast live on NBC on Saturday, 2 May and special packaged shows will air for the Industry Awards on Friday, 1 May. Fans and viewers across Namibia and the rest of the world will also be able to view both the Friday and Saturday awards live online as both shows and other content will be streamed live.
