THE vigilance of a Hochland Park resident resulted to the speedy arrest of four men who had allegedly robbed a guest house in that area on Saturday morning.
City Police senior superintendent Gerry Shikesho told Nampa at the scene that the four men drew the attention of the resident when saw them run away from the establishment with the cash register and he immediately called the City Police.
Shikesho said the suspects entered the guest house at about 11h00 on Saturday morning, demanded the keys to the safe from the receptionist and then locked her up in a bathroom.
Realising the danger she faced as all the four men were armed with knives and other sharp objects, the receptionist told them that all money was in the cash register.
After cutting off the electric cables of the cash register, the four fled from the scene in a green Okahandja-registered vehicle, but did not get far, as City Police officers were at the scene within minutes and intercepted them.
“We want to warn all would-be robbers that we, the City Police, will stubbornly protect the lives and property of our residents,” said Shikesho.
He urged business owners to be vigilant and not to keep large amounts of money at their premises because this makes them easy targets for robbers.
No one was injured during the incident.
Shikesho praised the receptionist for her bravery, as she kept calm throughout the ordeal.
The four suspects, all Namibians, are expected to appear in Windhoek Magistrate’s Court today.
