THE OvaHerero Chiefs Council on Thursday reaffirmed Tumbee Tjombe as acting chief of their community.
He was confirmed in that position during a four-day meeting of the OvaHerero leaders at the Omusanakuumba village, about 20km from Okahandja.
The meeting from 15 to 18 July was called to discuss the way forward following the death of Paramount Chief Kuaima Riruako in June this year.
“Chief Tjombe will continue as the acting chief with full backing of the OvaHerero chiefs council, as the council is fully in charge of the governance of the OvaHerero people,” said executive director of development and foundation of the OvaHerero traditional authority (OTA), Jonathan Katjimune.
He told Nampa the OvaHerero senate will again meet after the late chief’s tombstone unveiling to deliberate on the way forward, including how long Tjombe will act in this position. Riruako’s tombstone unveiling will take place during the red flag day celebrations from 22 to 24 August this year in Okahandja.
He further said the chief council will consolidate co-operation with other chiefs, such as the Chief Aletha Karikondua Nguvauva of the OvaMbanderu, Jefta Uatega Urika, who is the leader of the Onguatjindu clan; Chief Turimuno Hoveka of the Hoveka Royal House; Chief Dawid Fredericks of the Nama Traditional Authority and the Vaalgrass Traditional Authority.
Katjimune said the chiefs council has also re-affirmed a resolution to extend and seek co-operation with other traditional leaders and communities.
“In this regard our late paramount chief Riruako had already established co-operation relationships with the Ondonga Traditional Authority and the Oukwanyama Traditional Authority,” he said. – Nampa
