Namcol Awards Top Performers

On Friday 21 February, Namcol hosted a prize-giving ceremony where pupils and teachers were awarded for their astounding performances in the 2013 JSC and NSSCO Examinations.

The successful event took place at the Yetu Yama centre in Katutura where senior government officials, senior members of Namcol and sponsors were in attendance.

Smiling winners received cash prizes ranging from N$500 to N$6 000 and a few sponsorships were handed out from various companies.

Namcol pupils made their presence known at the fully packed venue while their teachers and family members proudly looked on.

During the heartfelt ceremony, the Director of Namcol, Harold Murangi, encouraged students by sharing a story about a cartoon he received that was captioned “never give up.”

“One of our biggest challenges includes the lack of discipline amongst pupils such as those who refuse to study.” Murangi hopes that the impressive statistics by the school will be a testimony to all pupils out there that failing a grade is not the end of the world.

The prize-giving ceremony was officially established in 2010 in order to encourage weak performing pupils to work harder.

The Best Overall Performance in the JSC exams went to Usurua Uetujama from the Namcol Kuisebmund Centre who received N$5000, which was sponsored by DMS and Bank Windhoek.

Best Overall Namcol candidate on NSSCO level was Ben Mulonga, who not only received N$5000, but a scholarship by Namcol covering the first year registration and tuition fees at any tertiary institution of higher learning of his choice.
