Central Netball prepares for exciting season

The Central Netball Zone hopes to expand its events calendar for this season, starting with Saturday’s umpires refresher course at the Khomasdal Sports Stadium’s netball field.

The aim of this course is to empower umpires and get them ready for the league which starts on 7 March and for the future international matches.

The course will be conducted by Anithab Ndjaranguru, an internationally graded umpire, who has officiated games at international level on various occasions.

She will be assisted by Natasha Tekur, also another graded umpire, who together with Ndjaranguru attended a coaching and umpires workshop in Glasgow last year.

Participation in the course is free of charge and all clubs and aspiring new umpires are invited.

The league recently accepted several new clubs to its ranks and more requests are pending, therefore this refresher workshops will serve as our base of ensuring the league is professional.

As part of their efforts to rekindle the public’s affection for the sport, which was a major attraction in the 1990s, the central zone administrators are keen to involve the community in its development strategy.

“We hope to attract more players back to the game of netball in 2014,’’ said public relations officer Rebekka Goagoses-Nekundi.

She added that the workshop will be followed by accreditation courses aimed at awarding certificates on either beginner’s or advanced level, depending on the participant’s performance.

“These are on a local level only and probably recognizable within our zone up to a time the mother body initiates courses on national level. At least by then we would have upgraded the level of our own umpires and ensured that they are on the same level for our league,” said Goagoses-Nekundi.

For further details interested individuals should contact Imelda Nerongo, the central zone’s administrator at 0812087822 or the Goagoses-Nekundi at 0813802881.
