Brave Warriors to play Ghana

The Brave Warriors will play the Black Stars of Ghana on 4 January, 2014 in Windhoek as the latter prepares for the 2014 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals to be hosted by South Africa.

According to the Namibia Football Association president John Muinjo, the Ghanaian team has agreed to camp in Namibia ahead of the continental showpiece that is limited to local-based players, and the Black Stars are expected in Namibia by 23 December, 2013.

“They (Ghana) are our good football friends and the ties between these two countries go a long way. So when we approached them to come and camp here ahead of their CHAN adventure, they did not hesitate. They are coming to Namibia and part of the agreement is that the two national teams will play each other on 4 January in Windhoek,” Muinjo said.

“It is important that we engage other African countries and keep our coach busy with his players as well. We are pleased to have a good relationship with the Ghana Football Association and ahead of the World Cup, we are looking at further friendlies against two national teams. I’m happy we are honouring our relationship,” Muinjo added.

Brave Warriors coach Ricardo Mannetti will be announcing the team to face the visiting Ghanaian team later this week.

The Ghanaian team will be based in Windhoek and earlier this week Ghana FA executive member Fred Pappoe arrived in the Namibian capital to conclude logistics ahead of his team’s arrival early next week.

The Black Stars will depart from Windhoek to their 2014 CHAN base in Bloemfontein on 8 January and are drawn in Group C alongside Libya, Ethiopia and Congo.

The 2014 African Nations Championship will be the third edition of the African Nations Championship in football. The tournament will take place between 11 January and 1 February 2014 in South Africa.
