The board chairperson of the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor), Jennifer Comalie, says she has not been provided with security as reported by state-owned newspaper New Era on Thursday.
“The police is still busy with the security assessment. No security has been provided by them yet,” Comalie told The Namibian on Thursday.
Last week minster of finance Iipumbu Shiimi wrote to police chief inspector general Joseph Shikongo requesting the police to conduct a security threat assessment regarding Comalie.
The request came after Comalie allegedly informed Shiimi and the minister of mines and energy, Tom Alweendo, that she feared for her life and that of her child.
This is due to the way she was handling issues at Namcor, she said, which resulted in the suspension of its managing director, Immanuel Mulunga, this week.
Shikongo on Thursday said he was looking into Shiimi’s letter.
“It’s a process. You don’t just receive the letter and say okay, I send police officers. We need to conduct the assessment, and then give feedback to the minister as the author of the letter,” he said.
Shikongo said his office is currently finalising the assessment, and will provide Shiimi with a response.
