The police in the Kavango East region on Thursday arrested eight suspects for allegedly robbing and attacking a teacher.

The Kavango East acting regional police commander, deputy commissioner Eino Nambahu, confirmed the arrest on Friday.

Nambahu said seven male suspects and a female were arrested and taken in for questioning over the Rudolf Ngondo primary school robbery.

He said, according to eyewitnesses, three suspects fled in a silver Polo.

“So out of the eight, we need to establish who was in the Polo and the investigators are processing this,” said Nambahu.

It is alleged that the suspects followed a female teacher after she withdrew N$14 000 from the bank and took it to the school.

Nambahu said the suspects allegedly gained entry by jumping over the school fence, held two teachers at knifepoint and grabbed the bag of money and ran out of the classroom. They jumped over the fence and fled in the silver Polo.

He said one of the male teachers was injured during the scuffle.

According to Nambahu, the alleged stolen money belongs to the school.

Sources allege that the money was meant for a regional sport event, which the teacher was helping organise.

Pupils at the school were dismissed early following the incident.
