Zambezi regional governor Lawrence Sampofu has called upon regional councillors to refrain from disclosing information discussed during council meetings at bars.
He said this on Tuesday during the Zambezi regional councillors swearing-in ceremony, where Katima Mulilo Rural constituency councillor Matengu Simushi was re-elected as chairperson of the council and management committee.
Kabbe North constituency councillor Bernard Sisamu and Linyanti constituency councillor Ivan Kabunga were elected as management committee members.
They were sworn in by magistrate Clara Mwilima.
Sampofu said they should abide by the oath they were taking and keep government secrets always.
He also urged councillors to do away with constant postponements of council meetings which had happened in the past and instead work hard to ensure that service is delivered to the communities they serve.
“Let’s plan and work as a team to fight against poverty, inequality, unemployment, and other forms of crime in society. Unity is the best weapon against underdevelopment, tribalism, and corruption,” he said.
Simushi, during his acceptance speech, called for unity of purpose to bring about much-needed development in the region.
“There are a number of outstanding projects that need to be completed, and we can only do that if we all come together,” he said.
