The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) on Friday announced that its director of operations, Petrus Shaama, has been appointed as the commission’s new chief electoral and referenda officer.
Shaama replaces Theo Mujoro and will resume his new role on 1 September on a five-year contract.
The ECN said Shaama’s appointment is a significant milestone in fulfilling the commission’s mandate, and to strengthen democratic processes in the country.
“As a commission, we are confident that under his guidance, the ECN will continue to play a pivotal role in promoting democratic values, ensuring electoral integrity and fostering public trust in the electoral process,” the ECN said.
Shaama holds various qualifications, including a master’s degree in electoral policy, a bachelor’s degree in human resources management, and a diploma in human resources.
