Police in the Oshikoto region have reported separate incidents in which two one-year-old infants allegedly drowned in water buckets.
Both incidents happened on Saturday.
One of the infants, from Oniimwandi village, was allegedly playing alone in the house close to a bucket full of water when the accident happened.
“The mother was taking a nap under a tree in the homestead and the child died on the spot,” reported Oshikoto police regional commander, commissioner Theopoline Kalompo-Nashikaku.
The other incident happened at farm Wendelberg outside Tsumeb.
“The child was playing with other children outside the house while the mother was doing laundry only for the mother to discover later on that her baby had drowned in a 29-litre bucket of water when she returned from hanging clothes,” said Nashikaku.
