Gravel travel and French flair

The name Peugeot is known to many in the auto industry. After being absent from Namibia for a few years, it is making a comeback in the local market and will bring some surprises in the form of the Allure 4×2 and the 4Action 4×4 Landtrek double-cab bakkie edition.

Head of sales at the M+Z Motor group Rassie Rietz says they are in the market to compete and offer clients a variety of brands, and the Peugeot is the next option to expand the group’s portfolio in the market.

“The Landtrek compares well with the other brands, and I believe the Peugeot has no reason to stand back for anyone out there in the market.” Rietz says.

“Anyways, Peugeot had bakkies long before I was around,” he says.

When it comes to off-road capabilities, the vehicle is well specced, and has ground clearance of 235mm with a wading depth of 600mm, making it easy to cross various obstacles and terrain.

Both the approach and departure angle compare well with vehicles in its class with 29 and 27 degrees, respectively.

The loading box also appears a comfortable size, with a dimension of 1 630mm in length, width of 1 638mm and depth of 500mm.

As expected, both the 4×2 and 4×4 come standard with a 1,9L inline 4-cylinder diesel engine that delivers 110kW @4000rpm for the two-wheel drive and 111kW at the same rpm count for the all-wheel drive vehicle.

The engines deliver 350Nm of torque at 1 800-2 800rpm.

They can power the 4×2 and the 4×4 from 0-100kph in 14,9 and 15,9 seconds, respectively, through their six-speed auto gearboxes.

When it comes to fuel consumption, the vehicles are both economical and range between 8,9L and 9,1L/100km, respectively, with tank capacity of 80-litres.

The interior, as expected from the French, are high-end quality and boast with seven assist grips, centre console box with armrest and six cup holders, front and rear pockets for storage, fabric and leather seat trims, front and rear adjustable headrests, and refrigerated glove box, to mention a few.

To add some extra French flair, the car comes with rear and front mud-guards, roof rails, side steps, chrome style bar with stop lights and LED load bay.

The vehicle will be on sale at the Jeep/Fiat/Alfa dealer in Suiderhof, and the range is not limited to bakkies only, says Rietz,
with the Peugeot SUV 2008 and 3008 models available.

Despite Namibians being renowned for sticking to well-known brands, particularly when it comes to buying bakkies, Rietz says he is sure the brand will find its preferred market in the country, especially with the backing of M+Z, Peugeot owners can be assured of their fullest support.

The new kid on the block comes standard with a five-year/100 000 service plan, as well as a five-year 100 000 factory guarantee.
