Debmarine Premiership champions African Stars’ chief executive officer (CEO) Lesley Kozonguizi was attacked at an off-ramp in the capital on Friday.

Speaking to Desert Radio this week, African Stars FC executive director Salomo Hei said: “We have learnt with shock and dismay about the attack on our CEO on Friday at the B1 off-ramp on the Western Bypass as you head towards Otjomuise and Sam Nujoma Drive.

“He was coming from picking up training equipment and was going to drop it off at the coach’s place. As he took the off-ramp turning into Sam Nujoma Drive that takes you to Rocky Crest and Otjomuise his car was hit with a brick.

“When he stopped to assess what had happened, he saw people approaching as the car window was rolled down. They then stabbed him while he was sitting in his car.

“The criminal or the attacker wanted to have access to either the car or cellphones or money, but as soon as Kozonguizi sensed danger, he drove off and luckily made it home, where he was immediately rushed to hospital.”

Hei said the lighting at the off-ramp should be improved and cameras should be installed.

“. . . because that has definitely been a hotspot for a very long time,” he said.

“We have reported the incident and we hope the culprit will be brought to book as soon as possible.”

Kozonguizi was discharged from hospital earlier this week and is recovering at home.

Some supporters took to social media in response to the incident.

Tjoo Tjozongoro said: “Speedy recovery, and get well soon, CEO.”

Uazenga Ngahahe said: “Speedy recovery, my son, Oom Les, God will continue to take care of you and protect you.”

African Stars FC supporter Joe Franco Murangi on Facebook said supporters wish Kozonguizi a complete recovery to take the club to another level when the new football season kicks off later this year.
