Following the murder of Peter Bockky Amwaalwa (22) recently, the Namibian Police have arrested four suspects who appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on charges of murder and robbery last week.
Amwaalwa’s remains were discovered in a Mondesa street in a pool of blood after he was stabbed, leaving the community reeling in shock, The Namibian reported last week.
A preliminary investigation revealed that he was allegedly attacked by a group of people.
On Monday, 10 July, Erongo crime investigations coordinator Erastus Iikuyu confirmed that four men were arrested in connected with the incident, while two more suspects are still at large.
The suspects are Ellen Goa-Eiseb (17), Linden Duwe (27), Sidney Jooste (24), and John Meriri (25), who appeared before Swakopmund magistrate Conchita Olivier, and were remanded in custody.
A stolen mobile phone was also recovered.
Amwaalwa’s relatives and friends, and some members of the community protested the awarding of bail and called for the suspects to face the full brunt of the law.
Amwaalwa, according to his sister Blommetjie, was a hardworking, business-minded young man who was the “father’s left wing” and the “second head of the house.”
“He was a legend,” she said.
It further emerged that one of the suspects is a neighbour who was allegedly present at the candle-lighting ceremony, as well as the funeral, a fact that has further compounded the family’s distress.
The case has been postponed until 30 August.
