The High Court of Namibia on Tuesday started with a two-week-long circuit court session at Rundu.
The High Court is expected to have circuit court sittings at Rundu for two weeks, from 1 to 15 August.
During the court’s session at the Kavango East town, judge president Petrus Damaseb is expected to preside over four criminal cases.
The court is also scheduled to have a circuit court session at Katima Mulilo in the Zambezi region, where Damaseb will preside at the hearing of another four criminal matters.
Sessions of the High Court normally take place in Windhoek, where the court’s main division is based, and at Oshakati, where the court’s northern local division is based.
Kavango East governor Bonifatius Wakudumo on Monday said it is an honour to have the High Court in session in his region.
“It’s history in the making that the High Court is coming closer to the people. It’s what we say in our National Development Plans, the Harambee Prosperity Plan II and consequently in Vision 2030 to decentralise functions to where the people happen to find themselves,” Wakudumo said at a media briefing of the Office of the Judiciary.
He said the decision made by the High Court was a step in the right direction.
